If you frequent my blog (thank you btw) then you may have already read some of my weight loss after baby posts, postpartum updates and wellness posts and dear baby, your first birthday post. Now as my boys are getting older (Geo two-and-half, Greyson one-year-old), I want to share more motherhood content with you because through blogging and social media I’ve met so many amazing moms.
Before Greyson’s first birthday, I spent so much time thinking about the party, the theme, and how to make it special for my boy. The first birthday is a huge milestone for our little humans. No matter how grand or intimate the birthday party, as a mom you want it to be perfect. I couldn’t wait to plan Greyson’s first birthday party.
Birthday Theme- Hawaiian Luau / Surfer Boy
This summer we vacationed in Maui and basically spent the entire month of August there. We had the best time! While there we decided on going with a Surfer Boy / Hawaiian Luau themed first birthday party.
It was the perfect birthday theme and we ran with the idea. How appropriate right? And… it was so gorgeous! We brought the tropical island vibe and the Aloha spirit home for our friends and family.
While in Maui, I bought a bunch of authentic souvenirs and worked with our dear friend Dona, who is an amazing party planner to bring our tropical luau vision to life.

Greyson’s Birthday Party Deets
It was such a happy day celebrating my sweet baby boy with our nearest and dearest family and friends. We transformed our backyard into a fun, Hawaiian luau with hibiscus flower leis garlands, surfboard cupcakes, palm tree-shaped balloons, pineapple centerpieces, and lots of other cute Hawaiian Luau themed decor-galore! And… what Hawaiian themed party is complete without Shave Ice?
Under our patio, we created a Tiki Table Bar with house-made Blue Hawaiians and other beverages for the adults using these adorable coconut wooden cups. We even dressed up canned beverages in hawiaan shirts like these! On the other side, we had a large snack table for the kids. Lunch was catered by Blue Fish Catering with delicious fish taco bar, lots of fresh salads and a kids buffet.
Greyson’s Birthday Cake was pretty awesome! It was topped off with palm trees, a red surfboard, and sand made from gram crackers. Just take a look, how cute right!!!! And, of course, the four of us had matching Hawaiian outfits. Hubby and the boys wore Hawaiian shirts and blue colored shorts, and I wore a casual dress with the same pattern. We kept our outfit vibe simple, and I dressed up my hair with beautiful white plumeria flower pins. It just brought the whole theme together. This was the first time I’ve had all of us wear matching ensembles, and it was so much fun!
More Party Photos
Below are some more photos from Greyson’s first birthday party. Most of our decor is from Amazon, Home Goods, and Party City. I’ve linked some of the decors in this post for you in case you want to grab a few items for your next party.
We had so much fun at Greyson’s Hawaiian Luau-themed first birthday party!!! Geo loved playing with his cousins and friends till way past his bedtime. On the other hand, Greyson took his usual afternoon nap, smiled at everyone, and enjoyed a piece of his delicious birthday cake. It was a great day.
I love throwing a good party! Special thanks to the super talented Dona Beglarian for helping plan Greyson’s first birthday party, Daria Nagovitz for capturing the beautiful photos, Red Fish Catering for the delicious food, Bart’s Carts for the Shave Ice, and Pink Oven Creations for the adorable cake!

I love the beachy feel to the theme and totally keen to try this for my summer babes next bash!
Thanks so much for reading. It’s such a fun theme and you can get really creative with it.
What color tablecloths did you do?
Curious where you got the tiki masks that are sitting around?
